Background

When setting up a new AWS account it's important that you make sure that the VAT number is configured.
If you do not enter the VAT number, Amazon will automatically bill you an extra 25%.

How do I add or update my tax registration number (for example, a TRN, VAT number, VAT ID, GSTIN, or VAT registration number) or business legal address on my account?

Short Description

If you have a tax registration number (TRN), such as a VAT ID, you can update the TRN and associated business legal address connected with your account in the Billing and Cost Management console on the Tax Settings page. If you're signed in as the master account of an organization, you can also view and edit the tax registration numbers for all linked accounts.
When updating your TRN or business legal address, note the following:
  1. If you don't have a TRN, or your country isn't available in Tax Settings, AWS uses the address associated with the account's default payment method, the account's billing address, and the account's contact address to determine the account's tax jurisdiction.
  2. If you're not sure which country to choose for these fields, consult your tax advisor.
  3. If you're in Europe and receive special status or relief from VAT, contact AWS Support and attach applicable certificates issued by the tax authorities in your country. If you don't have a certificate, provide information about your special status or relief in your case, and include specific sections of tax legislation that are applicable to your organization.
  4. If you're in the United States, see Does AWS charge US sales tax?
